Inspired by Bhagwan Parshuram, A Call to Defend Hindus and Uphold Dharma

parshuram jayanti

When the name of Bhagwan Parshuram echoes across the halls of mandirs and satsangs, I think of a man who was the embodiment of discipline and devotion, of strength and serenity. Though not as renowned as the other avatars of Vishnu, his story is one of justice. He is an inspiration to us, modern Hindus, as we continue to fight against adharma in our daily lives.

As I began to be exposed to Hinduism, Bhagwan Parshuram was one of the first figures within our faith that I felt a connection to. When I saw the Dashavatar (2008) animated film, I felt pride as this strong Hindu figure, rooted in faith and morality, faced down evil, and obliterated that evil in a series of wars against the unjust, immoral rulers of his time, allowing dharma to return to Bharat. However, he didn’t do this out of a lust for power or a desire to gain fame and glory. He fought to ensure that righteousness would prevail, that justice would reign over Bharat. He launched his wars so that innocents could be saved from the unjust rule of misguided kings, and our sages could be liberated from tyranny. Most of all, in one of the greatest examples of fidelity, he fought for his father, martyred on the altar of defiance and self-respect for refusing to bend the knee to an egotistical king who lusted for wealth and power.

In these past weeks, how many fathers were martyred? How many sons and daughters, husbands and wives, friends and family members, have been tortured and persecuted for the crime of being Hindu? From Bangladesh to Kashmir, Hindus are being subjected to barbaric violence and hatred today. Worst of all, the world remains silent.

In times like these, we lean on the traditions and figures of our faith. For me, Bhagwan Parshuram was one of the reasons why I became involved in Hindu advocacy. He embodied the strength and courage that I needed to defend the values and beliefs of my faith. Now, through CoHNA and CYAN, I have the opportunity to fight for dharma, and to work with men and women who embody the qualities and ideals that figures like Bhagwan Parshuram represent.

This Parshuram Jayanti, let us unite for dharma and fight against the sweeping waves of injustice and hatred that attempt to wipe our beautiful tradition from the annals of history. Figures like Bhagwan Parshuram show that whenever we come across injustice, it is our duty, not only as Hindus, but as human beings, to eradicate such a threat. Let’s come together as a community, and join the fight to end the persecution of Hindus everywhere.

Bhagwan Parshuram ki Jai!
