Coalition of Hindus of North America
If you haven’t heard yet, our CoHNA Cleveland chapter made incredible strides this past October. While the rest of the country was celebrating Hindu Heritage Month, our volunteers were out there making it official—and we’ve got the proclamations to prove it!

It’s never too late to celebrate wins and it was a truly blowout year for our team in Ohio, who secured nearly 20 Hindu Heritage Month resolutions from across the State. In addition there was a state-level proclamation—thank you Governor Mike DeWine!
Each one acknowledges the real impact Hindu Americans have made in education, healthcare, engineering, business, the arts, and so much more. And they recognize the core values we hold dear including dharma, compassion, inclusivity, and respect for everyone.
What made these proclamations even more special was each one was a community effort with young families, temple members, and volunteers coming together. Each proclamation represents grassroots advocacy – city residents getting involved, engaging with local governance, showing up to accept the proclamations. Most of all, it means having genuine conversations with local leaders about who we are and what we stand for. This is exactly what drives CoHNA’s mission and makes us a platform where passion for Dharma translates into impact.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the city officials and community partners who stood with us,” said CoHNA steering committee member Dr. Rakesh Ranjan who also leads the Cleveland chapter. “Every recognition like this helps more people understand our traditions, builds real relationships, and inspires other cities to do the same.”
The Ohio team’s work builds on their achievements of 2024, when they secured 17 Hindu Heritage Month recognitions, making it one of our most active chapters in the nation. What will they do next year?
