Atheism, Doubt, and Today’s Youth: A Dharma Dialogue with Pandit Satish Sharma

Young Hindus in the diaspora are growing up in an environment where belief, religion, spirituality, and even the idea of God are increasingly questioned. At school, university, in popular culture, and on social media, atheism and agnosticism may be presented as more rational, modern, or intellectually credible than religious belief.
For Hindu youth, these questions can be especially complex. They are often navigating two worlds: a family and cultural environment rooted in Hindu traditions, and a wider society shaped by very different assumptions about religion, faith, identity, and reason. But does Hindu Dharma require unquestioning belief in God? How has the Hindu tradition approached doubt, skepticism, reason, and atheistic thought? And how can Hindu parents in the diaspora engage with these questions in a way that encourages curiosity rather than conflict?
Hindu Parents Network invites you to a special Dharma Dialogues conversation with Pandit Satish Sharma, exploring atheism, doubt, and today’s youth through the lens of Hindu Dharma and the lived experience of Hindu families in the diaspora.
